Garmin eTrex Vista GPS
The Garmin eTrex Vista GPS is a mid-level model in the eTrex family, It is perfect for the outdoorsman. With 24 MB of memory, it will likely hold all the topology maps you could use on a single trip, unless you are hiking the entire Appalachian Trail! The Garmin eTrex Vista GPS unit includes a barometric altimeter and electronic compass, two very nice features. Be aware though that, unlike the Vista C, it will not auto-route. That is, you can't plug in an address and have it give you turn by turn directions. You can use it in a car with Garmin MetroGuide software, to direct you to points of interest (POIs) "as the crow flies," and show your position in real-time. In addition, this unit features a new, highly sensitive GPS receiver that acquires satellites faster and lets users track their location in challenging conditions, such as heavy foliage or deep canyons.
The Garmin eTrex Vista GPS's basemap contains lakes, rivers, cities, interstates, national and state highways, railroads and coastlines. Garmin eTrex Vista GPS also comes preloaded with marine navigation aids. And, with Vista's extra 24 MB of memory, you can add even more map detail with data from Garmin's entire line of MapSource mapping products.
The Garmin eTrex Vista GPS combines a base map of North and South America, with a barometric altimeter and electronic compass. The compass provides bearing information while you're standing still and the altimeter determines your precise altitude. The Garmin eTrex Vista GPS is also designed to provide precise GPS positioning using correction data obtained from the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS). This product will provide position accuracy to less than three meters when receiving WAAS corrections. Garmin's eTrex family of handheld GPS devices has come full circle in the form of the eTrex Vista. Building on the success of earlier models, including the eTrex Summit and Legend units, the eTrex Vista combines the best of both products in a single, powerful, 12 channel GPS receiver that features a built-in compass and altimeter, a whole 24MB of memory, detailed base maps, and an extensive database of local attractions.
